PUBG vs Free Fire game

PUBG vs Free Fire. Have you experienced the ongoing war between those two? About which game is better? Players of both games are battling about this. Even though these games might look like each other they own have their unique Battle Royale gameplay.

The central question here is not: what is the best game of these two?

But: what is the best game of these two for you?

And Cod mobile is just chilling in the background here…Lol.

I will give you everything you need to make that decision. Because for you Free Fire can be a better game to play than PUBG and vice versa. So yes, there will be ‘‘the best’’ game but you will see that this is very personal!

Are you ready to know:

  • The main differences between PUBG and Free Fire
  • Which one of them suits you best
  • Crucial phone requirements that you need
  • PUBG vs Free Fire Memes

In a bit, you will know what to see after a victory. ‘’Winner winner chicken dinner’’ in PUBG or ‘’BOOYAH!’’ in Free Fire.

Let’s dive into it!

PUBG vs Free Fire: The Main Differences

To know whether PUBG is better than Free Fire or Free Fire is better than PUBG, you need to know the main differences. These are important since they affect the way how you play the game. The way shooting feels is different, the intensity of these games feels different, and how you play these games is different. So we’ll not only talk about graphics and stuff here. There’s a lot more to it, as you will see.

The Playstyle of PUBG and Free Fire

One of the main differences lies in the way how long it takes to play a game. The game Free Fire has much shorter playtime than PUBG. A Free Fire game usually lasts about 10 minutes whereas PUBG matches can be over 20 minutes or even 30 minutes long. This makes it so that when you play Free Fire, it will feel more like a run and gun game. Running around and shooting as many enemies as possible before the time runs out.

While on the contrary, PUBG is a game where it’s more about having a tactical playstyle. Because you have more time to complete a game, a lot of the time can go into lying prone in the grass and listening to gunshots. For example. when you hear gunshots on the right you can creep up to that person and take him out with a headshot without that person noticing.

Free Fire is a lot more action-packed than PUBG and you don’t have to be that quiet as much there. It also has a more arcade feeling and it’s less realistic than PUBG. This is already shown when the game starts. These two games both start with a plane where you eventually jump out, deploy your parachute and start looting and killing enemies.

But in Free Fire, you will descend to the island on a skateboard. This is something completely different and quite funny. It gives the Battle Royale world a whole new touch.

Usually in these games when you jump out, you will just sort of dive towards the island but in Free Fire: nope, you’re doing it on a skateboard. Couldn’t this make you feel more like a hero?

A Realistic Shooting Experience?

This is a very overlooked aspect yet very important to know. PUBG has a more realistic shooting experience and let me explain this to you. When you shoot in PUBG, you will experience bullet travel time. This means that when you see a guy running to the left, you have to shoot left before he gets there. So you calculate where that person will be and shoot accordingly.

Free Fire, on the other hand, has no bullet travel time. You will experience zero delays since your bullets instantly hit the enemy. There's no weight to it or travel time. This can be positive or negative depending on your preferences.

When I think logically, I feel like the shooting within PUBG is harder for players that are new to shooters or Battle Royales. Within PUBG you’ll need more of that ‘’shooter experience’’ feeling if you know what I mean. Btw, PUBG also has more guns to choose from. They also use real-life guns which is a cool aspect too.

I play Call of Duty and the Battle Royale game Warzone, and I'm used to the fact that I have to adapt my shooting to how an enemy moves. I love sniping, and these enemies are not always standing still (shame) so it’s harder to do headshots when they move. You have to expect where they go and think of bullet drop too which makes you need to aim a little higher to hit their heads. Just to illustrate a bit how this works for you, but Call of Duty (Mobile) was chilling in the background here so I’ll stay on topic with PUBG and Free Fire.

The Maps - PUBG vs Free Fire

The maps of Free Fire are a lot smaller than PUBG too. This also contributes to the gameplay being more intense. Within Free Fire, there are 50 players on a smaller map and with the fact that each game ends in about 10 minutes, you will try to kill as many people as you possibly can.

It will be less likely to find people laying in the grass or on a mountain with a sniper aiming at you. This is more possible to happen in PUBG. And in PUBG, there are about 100 players on the map apart from a map called 'Livik’ which is a lot smaller and similar to Free Fire.

So what are all the maps in PUBG and Free Fire?

PUBG has 5 maps:

  • Erangel
  • Miramar
  • Sanhok
  • Vikendi
  • Karakin

Freefire has 3 maps:

  • Bermuda
  • Purgatory
  • Kalahari

As you can see, when it comes to the variety of maps PUBG has more maps to offer. Hence the difference in download size.  PUBG has a file size of approximately 2GB, and Free Fire has a minimum download size of 680Mb. Both PUBG and Free Fire have very unique maps but when it comes to the biggest variety of maps PUBG simply has more of them.

Fewer Maps But Rotating Game Modes!

Even though Free Fire has fewer maps, they do have mini-game modes that are rotating all the time. These different game modes could surprise you and they are meant to keep you engaged whereas PUBG is a bit slower with introducing new game modes.

You can play Free Fire the classic way, you can go ranked, you can host your server and choose to play Solo, Duo, or with a Squad. Then there's Rush Hour for example that’s even more action-packed which gives you a much smaller area with only 20 players. This also means that the match will be a lot shorter.

The Characters and Customization of PUBG vs Free Fire

Customization and characters… also something that’s interesting to know. Especially when you don’t want to have the same skin all the time. Personally, when there were games where customization was possible I spent quite some time customizing my characters (depending on how far you could go).

To know which game has the best customizations and most character options I can be very short: Free Fire. This is something where Free Fire excels. Within PUBG, you can't go from match to match in Battle Royale using completely different characters.  Yes, you can wear different stuff like wearing a military suit and the next time a dress, but this is much more limited compared to Free Fire.

PUBG does have different skins, costumes, and stuff like that but the customization doesn't stop there in Free Fire. In Free Fire, you even have pets that you can collect and customize. You can choose skill sets that give you different bonuses for when you jump into the Battle Royale. This is not very realistic, but it does make it a little more strategic.

For instance: in Free Fire, you can use a Gloo Wall for taking cover. In PUBG you can get shot in the open with no cover.

The Look of the Main Menu’s

I also want to mention the main menu (or lobby) screen. The layout of PUBG used to be 1 big main menu screen but after an update, it's revamped to a couple of different main menu screens. You can also remove certain buttons making it a lot less cluttered than how it's used to look before. Free Fire is still like how PUBG used to be. There are lots of buttons all over the place, which can be a bit overwhelming at first. Especially when you have a smaller phone screen it could be more effort to tap on certain buttons.

Are PUBG graphics better than Free Fire?

A good game doesn’t always mean good graphics. There are lots of games out there with beautiful graphics, but with a player base dying within a short amount of time. Remember those old childhood games? Even though they looked a lot worse than the childhood games available now, lots of them usually had great gameplay.

But it's a fact that good graphics give a more realistic experience, and it can make you get more immersed in the game. So what's the difference between PUBG's and Free Fire's graphical look?

Nowadays, the graphics on PUBG mobile are better since a massive update where a lot of stuff is revamped. You can think of new shadows, a dynamic range of colors, and much more. Free fire is a lot more similar to how PUBG used to be before that.

There may still be small aspects where Free Fire excels in terms of graphics. For example, the way how the water looks in those two games is also quite different. So some aspects are purely personal preference. In general, the overall graphics are better in PUBG mobile. Free Fire also has a more arcade feel than PUBG and it’s less realistic than PUBG.

Phone Requirements PUBG vs Free Fire

Do you have a high-end phone now with lots of space and 6GB of ram? Then there’s nothing to worry about. But when you do not have a phone with the best specs, it’s important to check how much RAM speed your phone has.

Free Fire's overall compatibility to run on all types of devices is excellent. With only 1GB of RAM speed, you can easily play the game. PUBG on the other hand needs at least 2 or 3GB of RAM speed. This shows that on a low-end budget device it would become difficult to run PUBG mobile.

phone requirements pubg vs free fire

You could stumble upon problems, like getting 15 frames per second and things not rendering in properly. To get the best gaming experience then you should go for Free Fire instead of PUBG since it's a lot better optimized for low-end devices.

How fast you download the game depends on your download speed. Imagine it takes more than an hour to download PUBG, you click on uninstall instead of open… happens to the unluckiest person in the world, lol.

Which Game Suits You Best?

To know which game suits you best, I want to ask you these questions:

  • Do you like to play more casually, by jumping into a game and play for 10 minutes trying to shoot as many opponents as possible?
  • Do you not want to worry about being tactical as much or lying prone for minutes?
  • Doesn’t it matter to you that there is no bullet travel or recoil?
  • Would you like more customization options with certain skill sets?
  • Do you like a more arcade feel?

Then Free Fire suits you best.

  • Do you prefer matches that take about 20-30 minutes instead of 10?
  • Would you like to play more tactical?
  • Do you want a more realistic experience when shooting, with bullet travel time and such?
  • Don’t you mind that the game is about 2GB in size?
  • Do you prefer a more realistic experience?

Then PUBG Mobile suits you best.

Conclusion: Which Game Is Better? PUBG or Free Fire?

To conclude this article, I want you to know that ''the best game'' of the two depends on what you like. One thing that Free Fire excels in for sure is its customization and creativity. Free Fire has a lot more customization options and offers special skill sets to use in the game. This makes it a little less realistic, but also a little more strategic.

PUBG is more tactical, and a match usually lasts longer since they can take 20-30 minutes instead of 10 minutes like a Free Fire game. The maps of PUBG are bigger than Free Fire maps with more players in them (apart from a PUBG map called 'livik’). Since Free Fire’s maps are smaller, games are usually more intense.

You can look at PUBG like a laid-back game, where you listen out and see if you hear gunshots in the distance. Free Fire is more like a run-and-gun type of game. You try to kill as many people as possible within 10 minutes. But if you prefer a more realistic gaming experience that has things as bullet travel and takes about twice as long as a Free Fire game, then PUBG is the right game for you.

Both of these games have their unique gameplay and you can decide which one suits you best. Or even better: you can play both of them. Once you might be in the mood for playing a short match, running around and killing as many people as possible, using special skills and such. And another time you might be into a longer, more tactical match.

So why not play both?
